Happy International Day of Hygge!

Hygge originates from Scandinavia and can be described as ‘something that illuminates the soul’.

In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Cosying up with a loved one whilst watching a movie, is hygge, too... And here's nothing more hygge than sitting around with friends and family, discussing the big and small things in life.

Perhaps hygge explains why the Danes are some of the happiest people in the world.

One good thing about hygge is that you can apply it anywhere, and Danes allocate it generously to everything commonplace, as you will surely find out on your visit to Denmark.

We have now officially achieved our Hygge in the Early Years Accreditation! As a result, children now feel calmer, relaxed, and overall, it promotes an all-round feeling of togetherness and enjoyment. Focusing on children’s wellbeing is fundamental in their development and continuing progress. Since adopting this approach, we have found children’s behaviour's change, as the calming atmosphere allows for more focus and engagement on their own interests in play, promoting friendship, self-confidence and more impactful play and engagement, which in turn helps to manage children’s emotions and regulate their own feelings.
